Outokumpu recognized as a Leading Company at the ESG Transparency Awards 2024
Outokumpu has been awarded as a Leading Company at the ESG Transparency Awards during the European Sustainability Week. The award is given by EUPD Research. This accolade celebrates organizations that embed sustainability practices within their operations and communicate these efforts transparently through comprehensive sustainability reporting.
In this year’s assessment, Outokumpu achieved a score of 87 out of 100, firmly placing the company in the Excellence class. Outokumpu was also appointed as a winner of the Leading Company category. This recognition underscores Outokumpu’s commitment to fostering sustainability and its success in implementing transparent reporting practices.
“Being recognized with the ESG Transparency Award reflects our entire organizations’ dedication to sustainability leadership and accelerating transparency in the industry. Sustainability is deeply embedded into our operations and strategy. With up to 75% lower carbon footprint than the industry average*, Outokumpu already today supports its customers to reduce their emissions. We have also set ambitious science-based climate targets to further reduce our carbon emission intensity by 42% by 2030. In addition, we are committed to work towards zero safety incidents, enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion and sustainable supply chain development”, says Heidi Peltonen, Vice President, Sustainability at Outokumpu.
The ESG Transparency Award is part of the European Sustainability Week initiative, which aims to inspire organizations across Europe to adopt sustainable practices and share their progress openly.
“The increasing demands for sustainability reporting, such as those set by the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), make transparency more crucial than ever. At Outokumpu, we believe that open communication and robust sustainability data not only strengthens trust but also drives real progress in the green transition”, Peltonen continues.
This achievement is complemented by two other recent sustainability recognitions, further showcasing Outokumpu's commitment to sustainability. Earlier this year, Outokumpu received the Sustainability Award in the Governance category from the International Chromium Development Association (ICDA). The award was given for being the first ferrochrome producer in the world to publicly disclose its environmental performance through an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). Outokumpu also received the Highly Commended recognition in the carbon reduction category at The World Sustainability Awards 2024 in October.
