Hardened plates for the laminate industry

In the decorative laminate industry, achieving the perfect design and finish is crucial. To address these needs, we have developed Avesta 393 HCR, a hardened martensitic chromium stainless steel grade. This material is engineered to enhance the quality and durability of decorative laminates, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, including high-pressure and low-pressure laminates, compact laminates, and various types of boards and presses.

The Avesta 393 HCR grade offers several key benefits, including exceptional hardness that provides resistance to damage like indentations and scratches. Its excellent flatness is achieved through a specialized hardening process, while its low thermal expansion minimizes the risk of deformation. Additionally, our precision tolerance grinding ensures superior parallelism, enhancing the overall performance of the plates.

Our plates are designed with a Low Inclusion Content (LIC) process, ensuring minimal inclusions for easy grinding and etching. The martensitic structure of the 393 HCR grade is ideal for electrolytic and chemical etching, adding to its versatility. Furthermore, the small linear expansion difference between the 393 HCR and a chromium layer makes it an excellent choice for large chromium-plated plates, ensuring a seamless and durable finish.

Surface plates for the hardboard industry

Since the 1930s, Outokumpu has established itself as a leading producer of surface plates for the hardboard industry. Our plates are renowned for their long service life, a result of a unique pre-stressing method that minimizes plate deflection during pressing. This innovation ensures that our plates maintain their integrity and performance over time.

The pre-stressing technique gives the plates a convex shape, which enhances the press's opening, improves heat transfer, and reduces plate damage. Notably, this pre-stressing effect remains consistent throughout the plate's usage, ensuring reliable performance. Additionally, our plates undergo a tolerance-ground finishing process, which results in a smooth surface free from pittings and scratches, as well as excellent parallelism.

To further enhance the quality and functionality of our surface plates, we offer waterjet-cut plates with integrated fixing lugs, eliminating the need for welding. This approach not only simplifies installation but also maintains the structural integrity of the plates, ensuring they meet the high standards required in the hardboard industry. Our key products are Avesta 393 HCR, Avesta 382 H, and Avesta 15-5PH.

Transport and wear plates

Outokumpu's transport and wear plates are highly regarded for their exceptionally long service life, even under the most challenging conditions. Our Avesta A9 and A10 steel grades have been specifically developed to meet the rigorous demands of the hardboard industry, ensuring durability and reliability in various applications.

One of the key advantages of our transport and wear plates is their low strength variation, achieved through a process called stretch leveling. This ensures that the strength across our plates remains remarkably consistent, providing reliable performance. Additionally, our plates boast high dimensional stability, maintaining their dimensions and flatness despite repeated exposure to temperature variations.

Our product offerings include the Avesta A10 (S355) transport plate and the Avesta A9 (S235) wear plate, both designed for use in wallboard, laminate, and fiberboard applications. These plates are engineered to withstand the rigors of the hardboard industry, providing a dependable solution for manufacturers seeking long-lasting and stable materials.

Temper rolled coils for endless belts

Outokumpu stands as a global leader in the production of temper rolled coils, catering to a diverse range of applications. These coils are delivered in a cold rolled condition with a mill finish (2H surface), boasting a typical tensile strength between 800 – 1,400 N/mm². This strength and versatility make them suitable for various industrial uses, particularly where durability and performance are critical.

Our temper rolled steel grades are categorized into several distinct lines, each offering unique benefits. The Core grades provide good corrosion resistance, making them suitable for applications requiring excellent formability and weldability. The Dura grades, known for their high strength and hardness, also offer good corrosion resistance, thanks to their precipitation-hardened properties. Supra 316/4401, a molybdenum alloyed austenitic stainless steel, is renowned for its very good corrosion resistance, making it ideal for numerous applications. Meanwhile, the Forta duplex and super duplex grades combine high mechanical strength with excellent stress corrosion cracking resistance, alongside other benefits such as good resistance to abrasion, erosion, fatigue, and low thermal expansion.

Our product range includes Core 301/4310, Core 304/4301, Dura 15-5PH, Dura 14-7PH, Supra 316/4401, Forta DX 2205, and Forta SDX 2507. These products are utilized in various applications, including fiberboard production belts, baking oven belts, high-performance composite belts, and cooling belts. Each grade is engineered to meet the specific demands of these applications, ensuring reliability and efficiency in operation.
