Outokumpu recognized as an industry leader in the Sustainability Yearbook 2023 and in CDP’s Supplier Engagement Leaderboard

Outokumpu has been included in the Sustainability Yearbook 2023 indicating a position within the top sustainability performers of the steel industry. This is the third consecutive year that Outokumpu has been included in the Yearbook. Outokumpu has also been recognized for its efforts to drive down emissions in the supply chain with a position on CDP’s 2022 Supplier Engagement Leaderboard.

“We are proud for this recognition as it shows that we are on the right path on our sustainability journey. We are on track with our science-based climate targets, our share of recycled material content was at an all-time high in 2022, and we have developed our approach to supply chain sustainability, human rights as well as diversity and inclusion. I want to thank our teams for their efforts in strengthening our sustainability performance. We can be proud of this achievement”, says Juha Erkkilä, Vice President, Group Sustainability at Outokumpu.

The annual Sustainability Yearbook selects the world’s best performing companies in terms of financially material environmental, social and governance (ESG) metrics. The yearbook is based on the Corporate Sustainability Assessment by S&P Global, which identifies companies that are top of their industry in recognizing and responding to emerging sustainability opportunities and challenges.

As the leader in sustainable stainless steel, sustainability is at the core of Outokumpu. Outokumpu has committed to the Science-Based Targets initiative’s 1.5°C climate target. In 2022, Outokumpu announced ambitious goals to improve energy efficiency. Outokumpu has also launched a new product line, Circle Green, with up to 92% lower emissions than industry average. Outokumpu can also provide its customers product-specific carbon footprints for transparent emission reporting.

Outokumpu has also started the process of auditing its operating sites in Europe for the ResponsibleSteel standard. Outokumpu’s sites in Tornio, Finland and Avesta, Sweden were the first steel manufacturing sites in the Nordics to qualify for the auditing stage.
