Die Supra-Kategorie umfasst austenitische und ferritische Edelstahlgüten für durchschnittlich bis stark korrosive Umgebungen im PRE-Bereich 22–26.
Die am weitesten verbreitete austenitische Edelstahlsorte mit Molybdänlegierung, Supra 316L/4404 (EN 1.4404), bestimmt das Gesamtbild der Supra-Kategorie. Die Supra-Kategorie wird durch eine moderne, stabilisierte, molybdänlegierte, nickelfreie, ferritische Edelstahlvariante mit einem Chromgehalt von 18 %, Supra 444/4521 (EN 1.4521), ergänzt.
Die neueste Ergänzung der Supra-Kategorie ist die austenitische Edelstahlsorte Supra 316plus/4420 (EN 1.4420). Dank des höheren Chrom- und Stickstoffgehalts weist Supra 316plus im Vergleich zum 316L eine höhere Korrosionsbeständigkeit und Festigkeit auf.
Austenitische Cr-Ni-Mo-Edelstähle der Supra-Kategorie verfügen über exzellente Korrosionsbeständigkeit, Schweiß- und Umformeigenschaften, insbesondere Streckzieheigenschaften. Austenitische Stähle weisen eine sehr hohe Verformbarkeit auf, und zwar bis hinunter zu kryogenen Temperaturen. Aufgrund der höheren Zähigkeit und Kaltverfestigung der austenitischen Edelstähle ist bei der Umformung und Bearbeitung im Vergleich zu ferritischen Edelstählen oder Kohlenstoffstählen besondere Vorsicht geboten.
Der moderne ferritische, molybdänlegierte Edelstahl der Supra-Kategorie, Supra 444/4521, verfügt über eine ausgezeichnete Korrosionsbeständigkeit und hervorragende Schweiß- und Tiefzieheigenschaften. Die nickelfreien ferritischen Edelstähle bieten eine hervorragende Beständigkeit gegen chloridinduzierte Spannungsrisskorrosion. Ferritische Edelstähle haben gute Wärmeübertragungseigenschaften, die in Anwendungen genutzt werden können, in denen eine gleichmäßige und schnelle Wärmeübertragung bevorzugt wird. Eine gute Wärmeübertragung mit geringerer Wärmeausdehnung erleichtert die Schweißbarkeit durch einen geringeren Schweißverzug und ein geringeres Ausbeulverhalten als austenitische Edelstähle. Außerdem sind ferritische Stähle aufgrund ihrer geringen Kaltverfestigung ähnlich gut bearbeitbar wie Kohlenstoffstähle.
Die Güten der Supra-Kategorie können in einer Vielzahl von Anwendungen eingesetzt werden, die durch eine breite Auswahl an Oberflächenausführungen von Walzwerken und Servicecentern unterstützt werden.
