Outokumpu has received again Platinum level recognition from the sustainability rating platform EcoVadis. The recognition indicates that Outokumpu is within the top 1% in its industry in terms of sustainability performance. This year, Outokumpu received an all-time high score of 82 and improved most in Labour & Human rights.
“We are proud to see that EcoVadis acknowledges the progress of our ambitious sustainability agenda. Outokumpu is currently ahead of its science-based climate target to reduce direct, indirect and supply chain emission intensity by 42% by 2030. Many thanks to our entire organization for their strong commitment to keep our industry leadership in sustainability”, says Johann Steiner, EVP, Strategy, Sustainability and People.
In 2024, Outokumpu reduced its emission intensity by 32% compared to the base level of 2016. Outokumpu also reached its ambitious targets with a record-high level of recycled material content at 95% and the share of low-carbon electricity at 90%. In 2024, Outokumpu supported its customers to avoid 10 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions in total, compared to global average of stainless steel. Several leading companies in Europe and Asia have also reduced more than 50,000 tons of carbon emissions with our spearhead solution Outokumpu Circle Green®.
Besides the ambitious climate work, Outokumpu received fair pay certification first in the industry in 2024 and is committed to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights across its value chain.
“The steel industry – both carbon and stainless – accounts for 10% of the global climate emissions. We can see the industry taking steps forward in sustainability, as this year the threshold for the highest-level recognition was at an all-time high. The Platinum level recognition from EcoVadis indicates that we are on the right track, and we will continue the work across our value chain together with our customers and suppliers to drive the industry forward in the green transition”, Steiner says.
Furthermore, Outokumpu has recently been recognized in other sustainability ratings, including S&P Global’s Sustainability Yearbook listing, as well as in Sustainalytics’ ESG listing as a Top-Rated ESG performer. Outokumpu also recently reached the Clean200 listing by the Corporate Knights.
